Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why that information is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Pickens County Criminal History, you consent to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Pickens County Criminal History does not keep a local log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained for the time needed to respond and manage the exchange. It is not shared beyond the site's operating team unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Routine server records collect technical details when a page loads, which may include:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The referring website, when one is reported
  • Visited pages and approximate time spent on them
  • Browser type and version
  • Device category and operating system
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and analytics services help produce aggregate measurements, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can reject or remove cookies, although disabling them may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a query to the selected search provider
  • Maintaining site availability and page speed
  • Finding and resolving technical faults
  • Measuring which content is useful or needs revision
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Pickens County Criminal History does not create, store, or sell a database of individual criminal records. It publishes reference material about records held by the sheriff, local courts, SLED, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry Tool. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal-history profile, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure rules govern information submitted to a tool. Review the provider's policy before entering a query because this policy does not control that processing.

Links to Other Websites

Links lead to courts, law-enforcement offices, South Carolina agencies, legal resources, and private services. Once a visitor follows an outbound link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check it before providing personal information.

Some advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking is outside this site's control.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Advertising networks that serve material on these pages
  • Analytics vendors that measure traffic and operation
  • Search providers that process a submitted query
  • A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No online system is completely secure, so the site cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. A verified request concerning a minor's information will be reviewed for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy or consumer-protection law may provide rights concerning personal data. South Carolina public criminal-record access is separately governed by the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, while SLED criminal-history dissemination is addressed in S.C. Code Title 23, Chapter 3. Subject to verification and legal limits, a visitor may:

  • Request access to personal information held by this site
  • Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
  • Seek deletion where the law permits
  • Object to eligible forms of data processing

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A new version becomes available here with its updated effective date.
